Four Months is a Long Time in Social Media

On 12 March 2014 IT Bandwagon conducted its first social media workshop for 2014. The last workshop delivered to businesses in Broome was 27 November of 2013. In reviewing the content of the workshop it was interesting to note the changes in Facebook in that short time. Some of those changes are the use of #hashtags and the new trending functionality.
Developments within the environment in which Facebook exists have also changed in the past few months. Mobile browsing has exploded to the point now that many people are browsing social media on mobiles only. Now more than ever it is imperative to be mindful of the user experience. In my own experience there is nothing I find more frustrating than clicking a link on a tweet or Facebook post only to be taken to a clumsy non-responsive website. If you are browsing on a desktop this is no big deal, however when this occurs while browsing on mobile it generally terminates the engagement. 

The other interesting development within the last four months was Facebook’s purchase of What’s App for a staggering 19 billion dollars. This reinforces the value in mobile. Facebook clearly see a big future in mobile messaging and mobile browsing.
